Randy Eccles, MD, FACP
Assistant Medical Director
As Assistant Medical Director of Medicomp Systems, Randy Eccles, MD applies his passion for computers and medicine to supports the Knowledge Management Team – expanding and refining the massive database indices with millions of interconnected data points to deliver Medicomp’s diagnostically connected data.
With over 35 years of IT and healthcare experience, Dr. Eccles has served in various capacities as Clinic Chief, Medical Director, and Lead Informaticist with roles as EHR user and EHR subject matter expert (SME). Prior to joining Medicomp, Dr. Eccles served as Lead Documentation Tools Designer for EHR Total Solutions after a tenure as Chief Medical Officer for KSJ, Inc., where his focus was the development and implementation of federal, enterprise-wide EHR systems.
Dr. Eccles is board certified in Internal Medicine, completing his residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, after attending George Washington University School of Medicine. He is a fellow in the American College of Physicians.
Edmund M. Herrold, MD, PhD
Director of Medical Research
As Director of Medical Research, Edmund M. Herrold, MD, PhD is responsible for updating and expanding the content of the Medicomp Knowledgebase. Since the early 1990s, he served as consultant for Medicomp founder Peter Goltra, expanding and refining Knowledgebase content. In 2014, he joined Medicomp as Director of Medical Research. In this role Dr. Herrold provides an important historical perspective about the Knowledgebase content and its development.
Dr. Herrold’s multifaceted background has been instrumental in the development of the Knowledgebase. He earned his B.S. in fluid mechanics at Lehigh University, his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University and concurrently completed his M.D. Following his Residency in Internal Medicine (Board Certified) and Fellowship in Cardiology (Board Certified) he joined the Cornell Medical College Faculty where he authored or coauthored over 50 papers. He joined the SUNY Downstate Faculty as Director of Clinical Cardiology from 2009 to 2014.
Amy K. Jacobs, MSN, RN-BC
Chief Terminologist
As Chief Terminologist, Amy Jacobs is responsible for the mapping of Medicomp’s terminology, MEDCIN, to applicable industry-standard healthcare terminologies (e.g., CCC, CPT, CVX, DSM, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, LOINC, RxNorm, SNOMED CT, etc.). A seasoned healthcare informatics professional with experience in both clinical settings and informatics, she joined Medicomp in 2010 as a Terminology Specialist.
Prior to Medicomp, Jacobs worked for Lockheed Martin as a contractor on healthcare projects for the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Her projects included the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) Metathesaurus for NLM and the cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid (caBIG), NCI Thesaurus, and the Common Data Elements (CDEs) for the CDISC community for NCI.
Sharyn Miskovitz, MD
Senior Clinical Consultant
Sharyn Miskovitz, MD joined Medicomp Systems in 2016 and is now Senior Clinical Consultant for Knowledgebase Development. Since joining Medicomp she has made contributions to the Knowledgebase in general and has been particularly instrumental in updating, expanding, and further developing the Knowledgebase in her specialty area of pediatrics.
Dr. Miskovitz received her BA from Connecticut College and her MD from Weill Cornell Medical College. She completed her residency in Social Pediatrics at Montefiore Medical Center and is a board-certified pediatrician. Before joining Medicomp, she was Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and on the faculty as a practicing pediatrician in the Department of Pediatrics at Montefiore Medical Center. Since starting at Medicomp, she has continued her academic participation as a member of the Board of Directors, Weill Cornell Medical College Alumni Association.
Carolina Nadel, MD
Clinical Terminology Specialist
As part of the Knowledge Management Team at Medicomp Systems, Carolina Nadel, MD maps MEDCIN, Medicomp’s terminology, to standard healthcare terminologies. Dr. Nadel trained in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and has worked in the fields of medical research and writing. She has 16 years of experience as a Clinical Terminologist and enjoys working at the interface between the technical and the clinical in health information technology. Her goal is to bring true semantic interoperability to medicine for the improvement of healthcare quality. Before joining Medicomp, she was the Lead Terminologist at the American College of Cardiology, where she modeled, maintained, and updated the cardiovascular terminology of the ACC’s National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR). Earlier, she served as Clinical Terminology Expert and member of the Bioinformatics team at Booz Allen Hamilton.
