Under his leadership, Medicomp Systems has scaled its evidence-based clinical AI to power dynamic, multi-modal clinical workflows, and support nursing, home care and hospice, value-based care, and telehealth. Jay Anders, MD

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Jay Anders serves as the Chief Medical Officer of Medicomp Systems, where he plays a pivotal role in product development and acts as a liaison to the healthcare community. He champions the use of technology to empower clinicians, rather than hinder them. Dr. Anders leads Medicomp’s knowledge base team and clinical advisory board, ensuring that product development aligns with user needs to enhance usability. He hosts the award-winning HealthcareNOW Radio podcast, “Tell Me Where IT Hurts,” discussing critical issues such as physician burnout, EHR usability, healthcare interoperability, and the impact of technology on healthcare with industry experts. Before joining Medicomp, Dr. Anders was the Chief Medical Officer at McKesson Business Performance Services, overseeing the development of clinical information systems and leading the integration of Medicomp’s Quippe Physician Documentation into an EHR. Dr. Anders began his medical career in a large multi-specialty practice, confronting the inefficiencies of health IT and clinician burnout. After 16 years in internal medicine, as a physician, department chair, clinic president, and medical director, he left private practice to focus on leveraging technology to improve patient care and mitigate physician burnout.

Dan Gainer

Chief Technology Officer

Dan Gainer guides technology strategy as CTO of Medicomp Systems, combining 20 years of experience in health IT with a passion for using technology to improve people’s lives. In this role, Gainer champions the vision that innovative technology can make a difference for both providers and patients. His leadership transformed Medicomp’s products for modern technology, and introduced an intelligent, interactive clinical workspace for the point care with the launch of Quippe. Gainer holds patents for intelligent prompting of protocols and filtering medical information. Before joining Medicomp, Gainer co-founded a company providing accounting compliance software for federal contractors. Outside of Medicomp, Gainer serves as board chair of a regional behavioral health system.

James Aita

Director of Strategy and Business Development

James Aita brings over 20 years of experience as a strategist, product manager and business analyst to his role as Director of Strategy and Business Development for North America. Aita has dedicated his career to solving problems within the healthcare ecosystem. Most recently, he was the Head of Healthcare Solutions at Idea Couture in Toronto where he drove the creation of programs, services and technologies that help to improve patient care while also reducing costs. Before Idea Couture, Aita held a senior product management role at Medicomp developing the company’s Quippe modules, and expanding their footprint in the United States and globally. He has led product management and operations for healthcare technology firms in the United States and Canada, contributing to awards for both product and customer satisfaction. Aita guest lectures on emerging technologies in healthcare for a business school in his free time, and produces Medicomp’s award-winning podcast “Tell Me Where IT Hurts” alongside host and Medicomp CMO, Dr. Jay Anders.

Karen Chapman

Director of Product

As Director of Product for Medicomp Systems, Chapman overseas the design, development, and implementation of all Quippe modules. Committed to providing a useable, efficient product to healthcare workers across the globe, she collaborates across teams to optimize clinical workflows and drive value. Chapman works closely with current and prospective customers to increase adoption of Quippe as well as gather intel on industry needs to shape future product development. Hailing from the education world, Chapman has spent over 20 years in the healthcare industry. Prior to joining Medicomp in 2013, she led multiple teams and initiatives at Northrop Grumman and Integic Corporation for the training and implementation of the DoD’s EHR, AHLTA.

Randy Eccles, MD, FACP

Assistant Medical Director

As Assistant Medical Director of Medicomp Systems, Randy Eccles, MD applies his passion for computers and medicine to supports the Knowledge Management Team – expanding and refining the massive database indices with millions of interconnected data points to deliver Medicomp’s diagnostically connected data. With over 35 years of IT and healthcare experience, Dr. Eccles has served in various capacities as Clinic Chief, Medical Director, and Lead Informaticist with roles as EHR user and EHR subject matter expert (SME). Prior to joining Medicomp, Dr. Eccles served as Lead Documentation Tools Designer for EHR Total Solutions after a tenure as Chief Medical Officer for KSJ, Inc., where his focus was the development and implementation of federal, enterprise-wide EHR systems. Dr. Eccles is board certified in Internal Medicine, completing his residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, after attending George Washington University School of Medicine. He is a fellow in the American College of Physicians.

Edmund M. Herrold, MD, PhD

Director of Medical Research

As Director of Medical Research, Edmund M. Herrold, MD, PhD is responsible for updating and expanding the content of the Medicomp Knowledgebase. Since the early 1990s, he served as consultant for Medicomp founder Peter Goltra, expanding and refining Knowledgebase content. In 2014, he joined Medicomp as Director of Medical Research. In this role Dr. Herrold provides an important historical perspective about the Knowledgebase content and its development. Dr. Herrold’s multifaceted background has been instrumental in the development of the Knowledgebase. He earned his B.S. in fluid mechanics at Lehigh University, his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University and concurrently completed his M.D. Following his Residency in Internal Medicine (Board Certified) and Fellowship in Cardiology (Board Certified) he joined the Cornell Medical College Faculty where he authored or coauthored over 50 papers. He joined the SUNY Downstate Faculty as Director of Clinical Cardiology from 2009 to 2014.

Amy K. Jacobs, MSN, RN-BC

Chief Terminologist

As Chief Terminologist, Amy Jacobs is responsible for the mapping of Medicomp’s terminology, MEDCIN, to applicable industry-standard healthcare terminologies (e.g., CCC, CPT, CVX, DSM, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, LOINC, RxNorm, SNOMED CT, etc.). A seasoned healthcare informatics professional with experience in both clinical settings and informatics, she joined Medicomp in 2010 as a Terminology Specialist. Prior to Medicomp, Jacobs worked for Lockheed Martin as a contractor on healthcare projects for the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Her projects included the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) Metathesaurus for NLM and the cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid (caBIG), NCI Thesaurus, and the Common Data Elements (CDEs) for the CDISC community for NCI.

Sharyn Miskovitz, MD

Senior Clinical Consultant

Sharyn Miskovitz, MD joined Medicomp Systems in 2016 and is now Senior Clinical Consultant for Knowledgebase Development. Since joining Medicomp she has made contributions to the Knowledgebase in general and has been particularly instrumental in updating, expanding, and further developing the Knowledgebase in her specialty area of pediatrics. Dr. Miskovitz received her BA from Connecticut College and her MD from Weill Cornell Medical College. She completed her residency in Social Pediatrics at Montefiore Medical Center and is a board-certified pediatrician. Before joining Medicomp, she was Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and on the faculty as a practicing pediatrician in the Department of Pediatrics at Montefiore Medical Center. Since starting at Medicomp, she has continued her academic participation as a member of the Board of Directors, Weill Cornell Medical College Alumni Association.

Carolina Nadel, MD

Clinical Terminology Specialist

As part of the Knowledge Management Team at Medicomp Systems, Carolina Nadel, MD maps MEDCIN, Medicomp’s terminology, to standard healthcare terminologies. Dr. Nadel trained in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and has worked in the fields of medical research and writing. She has 16 years of experience as a Clinical Terminologist and enjoys working at the interface between the technical and the clinical in health information technology. Her goal is to bring true semantic interoperability to medicine for the improvement of healthcare quality. Before joining Medicomp, she was the Lead Terminologist at the American College of Cardiology, where she modeled, maintained, and updated the cardiovascular terminology of the ACC’s National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR). Earlier, she served as Clinical Terminology Expert and member of the Bioinformatics team at Booz Allen Hamilton.
